I've been neglecting my blogging responsibilities. So much has been happening lately that all I can do is quick visits about once or twice a week. I told you about the projects going on around the house this spring. I can happily say that the outside is completed for this year and I have lots of photos to share with you.
This is the view from the den. I originally would have been happy with steps but I got a stone covered landing instead. I LOVE IT!
I wanted something different...of course. My husband wanted to lay a brick patio which I was ok with, but I thought that the money could be better spent somewhere else. So we put in a driveway instead.
To be different, I also plant hardy perennials in pots instead of annuals. I have two reasons for this one is that I'm cheap and two is that I'm lazy. I potted these red day lilies and cone flowers in this pot 2 summers ago. Plant once for years of pleasure. I have hostas in other pots. I'll show closeups another time.
This is the overview of part of the back yard. We've been waiting for over 10 years for these home improvements. We had to get the children though college before we could redirect our money on us. We are not ones that buy things on credit. We did that years ago and it wasn't worth it. So now we wait until we save the money before we spend it. My brother laid the stone retaining wall. It is just what I wanted. It reminds me of the stone barn foundation from my childhood home. We also put in the concrete retaining wall so we could put in a new driveway.
And I laid this stone retaining wall on the other side of the driveway. I learned alot from my brother and I'm very proud of my work. And guess what...stones are heavy, very heavy.
If you look very closely you can see where the original stone wall stops and the addition starts. In the process of laying the stone, I noticed that there was this small stone sticking out. My brother said he needed to come back and make some small refinements, with one of these things being to cut off the end of the stone and morter it in. We both looked at it and thought the same thing at the same time...we liked how it looked and of course I could find something to hang on it. The stone is loose and I'm not going to ask him to secure it. It's just one of those surprises for people to find.
I was going to take more photos but it has rained AGAIN today. I am so sick and tired of rain. I can't wait for the heat and humidity. Summer bring it on. This project started at the end of March, and 2 months later it was finished due to the rain delays.
And then there are the inside projects...that's another story for another day. I won't let a month go by between postings before I share the inside with you.
In about 2 more weekends the inside projects should be complete for this year. I hope that the rains will have stopped by then and I can spend some time in the back yard with lit tiki torches and a cold beverage.
Thanks for visiting.
